Behind the scenes at knitonthenet

 Happy Easter, everyone!
Although it has been a quieter week, here on the blog, conversely it has been a hugely busy one behind the scenes. We are almost set to relaunch knitonthenet with a whole new format, concept and a new look too.

Gavin and I have been working away together for the past week: myself editing and rewriting, checking over pattern details and reviewing all sort of bits and pieces. Gavin has the monumental task of uploading all of the new site's content, putting in the many, many links, ironing out any hitches and making sure the new shop system and the whole site works. But don't think Susan has been slacking! She's busy, busy proofreading patterns for knitonthenet, grading patterns for A Stitch in Time volume 2, and of course knitting away on garments for the book too.

We aim to have the site up and running for you late on Easter Monday, so watch out for an announcement!

Happy knitting

Read All About It

While knitonthenet is being updated, you can see that we are running rather a skeleton service, but fret not! We have a brilliant back-catalogue of amazing features and articles: four years' worth in fact. If you've only really looked at our patterns, you've definitely been misisng out. Here are a few to start you off, covering such diverse topics as Felt Burial Shrouds and Jane Waller's Ten Reasons to use Fine Yarns.

Perhaps you, like us, love the vintage look. I reckon you should read 1950s Handmade Buttons.

Textile artist Rachael Matthews talks about one of Prick Your Finger's knitting activism in Louder than Bombs.

If you liked Helene Magnusson's wonderful Flag pattern from Issue 1, I bet you'll be interested in her article about Icelandic Knitting in a previous issue too.

So, there are a few to get you started. Let us know what you think, and what you'd like to read more of too!

Happy reading,
Ingrid x

Knitonthenet Site Problems - 19/12/2010

I'm sorry to have to tell you that the knitonthenet site and shop.knitonthenet.com have been the victims of malware and currently look unavailable to browse. If you have visited the site or the shop today, you will have seen instead of our usual front page, a large red 'Attack Warning' screen. Knitonthenet was compromised without our knowledge or permission earlier today.

The malware attack on the site has been dealt with, swiftly and completely, behind the scenes and we are currently waiting for the warning ban that comes up to be lifted. If in the meantime, you choose to click the 'ignore this warning' button on the screen, we are assured that you can access the site with confidence.

We do apologise for the disruption to the site in the run-up to Christmas, but please do keep checking back for our return to normal. We have been promised that the warning notice will be lifted within 24 hours and all shall be as it was.

Knit a Poppy for Remembrance Day

knitonthenet is proud to announce the return of our Knit a Poppy campaign in support of The Poppy Appeal.

The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants. Currently, nearly 10.5 million people are eligible for their support and they receive thousands of calls for help every year.

Please visit knitonthenet to download our elegant poppy brooch pattern (designed by Just call me Ruby) by making a donation of £2.00 to The Poppy Appeal.

We shall be keeping you updated of the Knit a Poppy Campaign via the blog and website, and would love to see photographs of your finished brooches, and also hear how much money you have raised. Please do remember to attribute your finished poppy to the knitonthenet appeal and Just call me Ruby as designer!

Best wishes

knitonthenet Issue 8 update

Issue 8, the Glamour issue, is almost with us. Designers this issue include Jennie Atkinson, Jacqueline Landry, Anuska Tay, Just Call me Ruby and making her design debut Theodora Burrow.

However, we are experiencing some difficulties with a number of the facilities on the site due to changes caused by our website host. There have been problems with contact forms, registrations and the design chart which we are trying to resolve. So if you have tried to contact us in the last few days we may not have received your message. The design chart is now working.

We are however still experiencing functional problems when using knitonthenet.com WITHOUT www. at the beginning, which many readers use or link to. The above facilities are still not working on this address, so we suggest you try to use www.knitonthenet.com.

We will do our best to get everything up and running in the next few days and expect to see the fabulous issue 8 by this weekend (We hope!)

Best wishes

Issue 6 online now

The latest issue of knitonthenet is now available online featuring lacy summer tops and accessories. We also have a gorgeous men's tank top from the Jane Waller archive which we have multi-sized.

We also have some new features in this issue - a bi-annual column from Pitti Filati, Europe's largest trade yarn fair and a quarterly column from the Mirasol Project, which will focus on progress at the project. Alongside this, we will have a Du Store Alpakka pattern using their range of Mirasol yarns in every issue.

There are many new developments on the way and new faces to help us continue to improve knitonthenet. The first is Catherine Wilson, also known as Aruba Blue, who will be acting as crochet editor, developing the crochet content of the magazine and answering your crochet queries. More on Catherine soon. We will be introducing another new face in a couple of weeks, but we will save that until then.

We do hope that you enjoy the latest issue and we look forward to a very busy autumn with lots of great things to share with you.
